Bridgett's Tale

Every lantern is crafted with a purpose—even the broken ones.

Since Bridgett’s journey began, light and words have defined her world. While defying the limitations of impaired vision and overcoming chronic pain, she learned a profound truth. Light shines brightest through cracked lanterns.

Bridgett's quest for light began with her first breath. After all, light was the one thing she could see. Though her vision increased over the next two years, it remained limited, instilling in her a strong reliance on words. These audible allies gave her surroundings definition, her steps direction, her spirit determination, and her imagination a destiny.

One word, however, she has always forbidden from her vocabulary—can’t.

Her refusal to give place to such a syllable and her constant defiance of physical limitation served her well, but no quest is without peril. She faced an enemy more formidable even than impaired sight, a medical condition that caused chronic pain and thrice tried to claim her life. After this foe from within took a devastating toll on her teaching career, Bridgett’s search for renewed purpose led her back to the love of words and stories that had shaped her childhood. The twin lights of faith and imagination empowered her to transform the darkest period of her life into an epic tale of triumph and the discovery of one’s true worth—her debut novel, Keeper of Shadows.

Words remain Bridgett’s staunch allies and most powerful weapons in her continuing adventures as author, speaker, editor, and writing coach. By day, she runs an editing and writer coaching business in Minnesota. When she isn’t slaying evil adverbs and rescuing lost commas in other people’s stories, she’s doubtless off exploring fantasy realms, far-away worlds, and the deep places within the human spirit. She returns from these quests bearing the tales of cracked and broken beacons who courageously carry light into the darkness—never forgetting that the first such tale she discovered was her own.
